We're thrilled to announce the return of the Annual Interschool Tennis Challenge, set to take place on Sunday, 25th February 2024, at Queens Park Tennis Centre, 19 Queen Street, SOUTHPORT, among other venues. This year, we're inviting all our budding tennis stars from Primary (Years 4, 5, 6), Middle (Years 7, 8, 9), and Secondary (Years 10, 11, 12) schools to join in a day of competitive fun and sportsmanship.

Event Details:

Primary School (Years 4, 5, 6): Green Ball event from 8.00am – 12.00pm (7.45am sign-on)

Middle and Secondary School (Years 7-12): from 12.30pm – 5.00pm (12.15pm sign-on)

Secondary School (Yr’s 10, 11, 12): Sunday 25th February – Boys & Girls 12.30pm – 5.00pm (12.15pm sign-on)

The tournament is structured as a round-robin knockout. While it's a challenge open to all, but we do recommend they are confident and knowledgeable of the rules and have some experience at playing tennis to get the most out of the day. This is a fantastic chance for students to test their skills, learn from peers, and enjoy the camaraderie of the sport.

Here's what you need to know to participate:

Find a Partner: Students must have a doubles partner to enter. If you need help finding one, please reach out to your Advisor, and we'll assist you.

Skills Requirement: Ability to serve and return is a must.

Equipment: Bring your own tennis gear.

Parental Support: Parents are expected to provide transport, supervision, and cheer on the participants!

We highly encourage interested students to have a chat with their parents and ensure availability for the event day.

How to Sign Up:
Please submit your interest by filling in this form and/or providing the student's full name, date of birth, and Advisory to your Advisor. The deadline for expressing interest is this Friday 16th Feb, so don't delay!

This is more than just a tournament; it's an opportunity to showcase your talent, make new friends, and possibly even ignite a lifelong passion for tennis. We can't wait to see our students hit the court with enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

Our event is all about participation and doing your best, in whatever form that takes. Whether your child enjoys running, walking, skipping, or even dancing their way through the course, the goal is for everyone to have fun and feel proud of their accomplishments.

Additionally, for students aged 10-19 years who are looking to challenge themselves further and explore competitive avenues, our cross-country event serves as a pivotal moment. It's an opportunity to trial for the District Cross Country Trial taking place in Term 2. Participants will have their times recorded, offering a chance to be considered for selection in this competitive event.

This isn't just a race; it's a celebration of movement, a testament to the spirit of our students, and a chance to shine, both individually and as part of the broader Silkwood community.

Dear Silkwood School Families,

Silkwood School proudly participates in the Broadwater District Sporting Schools Region, offering a competitive and representative sporting pathway for students aged 10-19 years who are eager to pursue excellence in their chosen sport.

The District Trials are a competitive trial that cater for students wishing to participate in representative sporting opportunities. Due to this, we encourage students who are already skilled in their sport of choice (playing in the highest division or age group above) to consider expressing their interest in attending these trials

The Broadwater District Team is a representative sporting pathway for Silkwood students to pursue. It gives students an opportunity to attend a trial alongside students their age, in their sport of choice and be selected in the Broadwater District School Team.

For those interested in taking their sporting ambitions to the next level, the Broadwater District School Sport has a Facebook page. 

This platform is your go-to source for the trial calendar, providing timely updates and any trial changes. It's an invaluable resource for staying informed and prepared.

How to Get Involved:
To ensure your child doesn't miss out, please inform your child’s Advisor of their interest in participating in the trials. We ask that you do this well in advance of the trial dates — a minimum of two weeks prior is required to process nominations through the school's nomination process.

We're thrilled to announce that our students will once again be taking part in the exciting Equestrian Affiliated Queensland Inter-School Equestrian competition this year. It's a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their skills and passion for equestrian sports outside of school.

Participating in this interschool competition is an extracurricular activity, which means it does require both a time and financial commitment from families for training and competing. It's important to note that while this competition involves schools, the organization and management of the events are handled externally, not by our school.

Here are a few key things to know if your child is interested in competing:

Must-Have: Students need to have their own horse to participate.
Experience: It's ideal if students are already competing or taking regular lessons, although it's not a strict requirement.

Registrations: Both horses and riders need to be registered with Equestrian Australia (EA) at the base level.

Silkwood School offers a variety of activities, providing opportunities for students to continue pursuing their interests and enjoying the company of friends after school finishes for the day. Activities are professionally organised and run either by our community or external providers.
