Riley’s Year 12 Exhibition: A Journey of Achievement and Service
This year, Riley has seized every opportunity available to him since starting at Silkwood during Middle School. For his major studies, Riley completed Senior Mathematics and a Certificate IV in Crime and Justice Studies, while also pursuing his passion for languages by learning German and Arabic. He also developed an in-depth financial plan for his future, a project of which he is particularly proud.
As the resident Lecturer’s Assistant in his advisory, Riley earned the nickname “classroom Siri” for his ability to assist in team-teaching, research, and confirming facts for his peers. His inquiry and investigative skills were also showcased during his Certificate IV, where he excelled in interrogating suspects and identifying gaps in their testimonies.
Riley’s resilience and adventurous spirit have shone through his participation in Kokoda and sailing camps, as well as competing at State, National, and World Championships for Karate, where he achieved his Black Belt at the age of 11. He has also been a dedicated community servant, representing Silkwood School at the Gold Coast Junior Council, participating in ANZAC services as a Cadet Corporal, and generously volunteering his time.
Riley plans to build on his community service by attaining First Aid and Justice of the Peace qualifications and engaging in further volunteering with local organisations such as the RSL, Fire, or Ambulance services. Looking ahead, Riley aspires to a career in policing, with potential pathways in Military Air Force Police or the Australian Federal Police.
A young man of honour, principle, and compassion, Riley embodies the values of service and dedication. We are excited to see him continue making a positive impact in his community and beyond.
Well done, Riley, and thank you to Tracy, Jessie, Kat, Shaun, Tai, Abigail, Casey, and his mum and dad for their support!

They volunteered as a support worker at a Dungeons & Dragons group for young people with disabilities, gaining valuable experience in supporting clients with diverse needs. Their dedication was recognised, leading to paid opportunities over the summer holidays.
Kasia also completed an internship volunteering at Lifeline, where they gained retail experience and worked with people from various backgrounds. With a strong sense of justice and a passion for addressing discrimination and mental health issues, Kasia delivered a powerful English persuasive piece on the impact of homophobia. This inspired a project to establish a queer support group at school, along with the creation of posters promoting inclusivity for our hallways and common spaces.
Additionally, Kasia achieved their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and secured a place in the University of Sunshine Coast Headstart: Intro to Social Work and Human Services for 2025. They are also considering a Psychology Headstart in Semester 2 to further their pathway into social work.
Kasia's commitment to social justice, inclusivity, and personal growth makes them an inspiring representative of our school community. We couldn’t be prouder of their achievements and the bright future they are building.
Thank you to Scott and Dan for their guidance and support.
Percy’s Artistic Odyssey: Exploring Mental Health and Creativity
This year, Percy has amazed us with their artistic creativity and intellectual depth, exploring the expression of meaning through art and analysing mental health themes via symbolism, mythology, and philosophy. They have completed three out of a series of four sculptural objects inspired by tulpas, magical formations brought to life through thought. These works explore complex concepts such as nihilism, self-destruction, narcissism, mental health conditions like bipolar disorder, childhood trauma, and sociopathy. The fourth piece is set to be a large-scale project incorporating sound installation and mechanical features.
Percy has experimented with numerous mediums and is planning to expand their skills into silicone, latex, resin, metalwork, woodwork, and electronics. Additionally, they are developing an Alternate Reality Game featuring the characters from their artworks and plan to launch an Etsy shop to sell their art.
Beyond their creations, Percy has delved into art therapy through their senior thesis speech and generously donated a sensory art piece to the school’s chill space. Their year also included enriching outlearning experiences at Seaworld and the Supanova convention.
Congratulations on a remarkable year, Percy, and thank you to Seb for your guidance and support.
Bree’s Multi-Talented Journey: Art, Science, and Engineering

She has expanded her art portfolio to include digital art using Krita, showcasing her commitment to growth by critiquing her work and continuously setting new goals.
Bringing her understanding of physics, light reflection, and the mathematical principle of the golden ratio into her art practice, Bree has pushed herself to learn from and emulate artists like Brent Minehan, creating stunning rendered landscapes. She has conducted interviews with artists at Comi-Con and Anime conventions and aspires to one day have her own stall in an artist alley at a convention.
For outlearning, Bree attended the Griffith University STEM day, exploring physics and cryptography activities, participated in the Starlab astronomy excursion, and shadowed behind the scenes at ArtVo, Robina. Her impressive reading log includes Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, further showcasing her intellectual curiosity. Bree is also challenging herself academically with an advanced mathematics course through Unilearn as she works toward a future in engineering.
We are excited to see where Bree’s passion for art, animation, and engineering will take her in the Senior years. Well done, Bree, and thank you to Reyna for your guidance!
Paige’s Dedication to Community and Health: A Remarkable Journey
This community-minded student has already made a significant impact across the Gold Coast and Brisbane and plans to continue serving the sick and vulnerable for years to come.
With a passion for nursing, Paige began her Year 11 journey at Silkwood while continuing a TAFE course she had started at her previous school, earning both Certificate II and III in Health Services. During an advisory activity imagining her future self, Paige discovered her drive to address the homelessness crisis.
She researched homelessness extensively, completing a report on statistics in Queensland and watching documentaries from around the world. Paige volunteered at Homeless Connect, a community event connecting homeless individuals with essential services. Working with Serving Our People, she gained valuable experience and was invited to continue volunteering with the organisation.
Paige’s documentary, Street Stories: Life Beyond the Shelter, explored pressing issues such as period poverty, domestic violence, mental health, and drug dependency among women experiencing homelessness. She also created posters to raise awareness, displaying them at her TAFE.
Through her TAFE course, Paige gained experience in aged care, preparing for a summer placement at an aged care home as part of her nursing practicum. She also attended Griffith University’s STEM day, focusing on workshops in social work and Aboriginal health care.
Paige’s achievements include successfully securing a place in the Biomedicine Headstart program at the University of Southern Queensland, which will deepen her knowledge and prepare her for nursing studies at university after Year 12.
Congratulations, Paige, on a fantastic exhibition and a year filled with meaningful contributions and achievements. Thank you to Reyna for your support and guidance.

Arron, a Silkwood student since pre-Prep, has demonstrated remarkable curiosity and dedication throughout his learning journey. After returning to Silkwood in Year 10, he pursued a diverse range of passions and interests, building an impressive portfolio of achievements.
In Year 10, Arron explored funeral and mortuary work through an internship with Artisan Funerals. He gained hands-on experience in various aspects of the industry, including preparing deceased bodies, assisting grieving families, and learning about the importance of respectful service. While he was invited to turn his internship into a traineeship, Arron chose to explore other interests, showing his commitment to self-discovery.
Arron also undertook a unique project on doll restoration, honing technical skills like colour theory, chemical processes, and fine motor precision. By Year 11, he developed a passion for the body piercing industry, conducting extensive research on ethical practices, piercing materials, and business planning. To prepare for this field, he completed the TAFE course "Maintain Infection Prevention for Skin Penetration Treatments Skill Set."
An active member of the cosplay and performance arts communities, Arron has showcased his creativity through costume design, make-up artistry, and performances with Spotlight Theatre and The Greenhouse group. These experiences allowed him to connect with like-minded individuals and address challenging topics through artistic expression.
For his senior thesis, Arron delved into the alternative fashion industry, researching market trends and completing case studies on brands like Dangerfield and Off ya Tree. He created a polished graduate portfolio and website, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and strong technical skills in SEO. Currently employed at Dangerfield, he is also completing a make-up artistry course and aspires to begin an apprenticeship in body piercing, with the goal of one day opening his own studio.
Arron’s dedication to his passions, creativity, and determination reflect his unique journey and future potential. Congratulations, Arron, on your incredible achievements, and thank you to advisors Rachel and Kat for their guidance!
Vegas’ Year 12 Exhibition: A Journey of Design, Real Estate, and Determination
Few individuals bring as much style and creativity as Vegas, whose journey has taken him through graphic design, marketing, property styling, and real estate. This year, Vegas completed a significant internship at Yakk, managing a client portfolio including Biocycle, Solis Estudio, Utask Print, and more. One highlight was collaborating with the Yakk team to design packaging, marketing, and the café concept for Eight-fifty Espresso, a coffee brand owned by Yakk’s founder.
Vegas expanded his expertise through a Bond University Student for a Semester course in graphic design, where he created a mini-magazine titled Metaphor and developed brand guides. His interest in real estate led him to complete a master class on the rental market and property trends. For his senior thesis, Vegas explored how graphic design influences real estate sales, creating marketing brochures for a dream property, studying virtual tours and 3D renderings, and balancing functionality with aesthetic appeal.
Shadowing mentors at Ray White, Vegas thrived in the fast-paced real estate environment, gaining insight into the legalities of the field and setting his sights on earning a real estate license. Alongside his studies, Vegas completed certifications in hospitality, barista training, forklift operation, and RSA, demonstrating his independent and driven nature.
For his social action project, Vegas led a Clean Up Australia Day beach event and contributed to the Year 12 mural project with Alison Mooney, addressing issues like youth mental health and global warming.
Post-graduation, Vegas plans to pursue his real estate license and consider further studies in graphic design, marketing, business, or potentially architecture. Whether it’s in property investment or luxury design, Vegas is poised to make his mark with determination and a distinctive style.
Well done, Vegas, and thank you to Scott and Steff for their guidance!
Eleah’s Year 12 Exhibition: A Journey of Art, Science, and Compassion
Eleah has demonstrated remarkable creativity, intelligence, and empathy throughout her learning journey, exploring art, science, and social equity in her projects since Year 7. Her passion for animals and anatomy inspired her early art portfolio, where she focused on sketching human and animal anatomy while studying neurology and biology.
Pursuing her interests further, Eleah enrolled in a Certificate II in Animal Care and investigated the mental health challenges faced by veterinary professionals. She completed additional certifications, including First Aid, Barista training, and infection management, preparing her for roles in both animal care and hospital environments. Her volunteer work at the Animal Welfare League earned her a letter of commendation from the organisation’s manager, highlighting her dedication and impact.
For her social action project, Eleah partnered with a peer to design new wildlife road signs, using psychological insights to make them more effective. Her senior thesis combined her interest in Auslan with animal care, exploring how the industry can better support deaf and mute communities. She developed practical solutions, including visual safety cues, workplace practices, and Auslan guides tailored for veterinary clinic use.
As a key contributor to the Year 12 mural project, Eleah suggested the theme "School of Fish," symbolising students swimming toward graduation and addressing critical issues like education reform, marine conservation, and mental health. Her creativity also extended to her role in the group that designed the winning senior hoodie for the new Robina Campus in 2022.
Eleah has secured an offer to study the new SCU Bachelor of Veterinary Technology at Lismore and plans to take a gap year before pursuing her long-term dream of becoming a veterinary nurse. She is also considering applications to Griffith University and the University of Queensland.
Congratulations, Eleah, on your incredible achievements. Thank you to Rachel, Tai, and Steff for their support!
Ysabella’s Journey: Real Estate, Fashion, and Community Impact
Going to have to get this girl’s autograph before she leaves us and shoots to stardom!
Ysabella started with us in Year 7, interested in law and sustainability. After interviewing lawyers, she realised it wasn’t the pathway for her and instead focused on designing a concept for her own sustainable fashion brand. She continued to pursue all things business and, in Year 10, undertook a Certificate III in Business with her aunty at PRD Real Estate. She spent one day per week in the office completing admin tasks and shadowed her aunty at open homes.
When her aunty moved to One Agency, Ysabella followed and discovered another side of real estate that she absolutely fell in love with: community partnerships. She shadowed her aunty as she connected with local businesses. When business slowed in the winter months, they organised a Christmas in July event with a kids' disco, face painting, and singers. Local businesses donated items for raffles to raise money for breast cancer. Ysabella was also thrilled to attend a prestigious industry event, the Kollosche Ball.
With growing passion for the industry, Ysabella began connecting with customers and realised how much she enjoys hearing their stories, understanding their needs, and supporting their goals. She is now managing her aunty’s Instagram account and is planning to get her real estate licence. For her senior project, Ysabella studied real estate trends, including the impact of longer settlement periods and the migration of residents from NSW and VIC.
In a full-circle moment, Ysabella also completed a Bond Student for a Semester course in Business Law, this time relating her studies to real estate by focusing on practical aspects such as contracts. She participated in university lectures, attended onsite classes, and completed a group assignment on the NSW Fast Track Law to address the housing crisis. This experience opened her eyes to university as another possible future option.
As a side hustle, Ysabella began modelling and promoting products at her part-time job, which led to a more serious modelling career. She secured work with brands like City Beach, Amoroso, and White Fox, even flying to Sydney for a White Fox shoot. There, she met the founder, who continues to mentor her. Ysabella is now being mentored by Miss Australia winner Zoe Creed and is keen to represent Queensland in Miss Australia 2025. She will travel for nine months competing while completing her real estate licence course online.
With her strong communication and presentation skills, Ysabella has carefully crafted her personal brand and is passionate about contributing to the community and making a positive impact through her ventures. She hopes to combine the skills she gains in modelling with real estate to forge a dynamic career—and perhaps even explore fashion design.
The possibilities are endless, and we are so excited to see where Ysabella’s journey takes her.
Well done, Ysabella, and thank you Scott and Nicola!
Savannah’s Journey: A World of Learning and Exploration
This bright and inquisitive young lady always loved learning but lost her passion for it in the traditional system, eventually finding her way to Silkwood in Year 11.
Savannah initially explored her interest in psychology through a university headstart course, only to discover it wasn’t quite what she had expected—exactly why we encourage students to try things while still at school. At the same time, she embarked on a metaphysics project, which led to valuable lessons in self-management as she learned to balance the freedom of self-paced learning. She then shifted focus to a project on architecture, design, and sustainability, including a Masterclass with renowned architect Frank Gehry on design art and architecture.
At the end of Year 11, Savannah took up crochet, making a dress for her mum. She decided to keep crochet as a creative outlet rather than a career but used her skills for her social action project, creating socks for homeless shelters—an idea inspired by conversations with her manager about the cost-of-living crisis.
For her senior thesis, Savannah delved into the dangers of fast fashion and its impact on people and the planet, connecting it to her crochet project. By Year 12, she had decided to live and study in Germany, where she has extended family. She shifted her focus to comparing strategies and tools for learning a language, studying German through apps like Babbel and Duolingo while researching the psychology of language acquisition. This study helped her understand her learning style and develop techniques tailored to her needs.
During her language studies, Savannah also explored German history and culture, creating a travel brochure and writing a feature article on post-war national identity using primary sources, personal anecdotes, and research.
For her outlearning, Savannah completed a Barista course and a Certificate III in Business while working at Event Cinemas, a role she found invaluable for her growth. She also attended a philosophy short course at Bond University, Reading for Social Change, and participated in the Will Kostakis creative writing workshop for Book Week.
In the future, Savannah plans to take on a second job in 2025 to save money for university. She will begin with a Bachelor of Communication at Griffith University, pursue journalism, and then transfer to the University of Hamburg.
We couldn’t think of a more inspiring journey of exploration and discovery than Savannah’s, who has managed to pack so much into two short years, developing skills some students spend their entire school life mastering.
Well done, Savannah, and thank you, Steff!
Eden’s Journey: From Playgroup to Outdoor Education Leader
This kind-hearted adventurer has contributed so much to our school and local community, having been with us since playgroup! It was clear that Eden "Donno" Donaldson was destined to thrive in the great outdoors. Once he began internships at Tallebudgera Outdoor Recreation Centre and Bornhoffen PCYC, there was no turning back. Eden became a valued member of the local industry, eventually securing a traineeship with Bornhoffen, where they even created a new role just for him. He is now the Leadership Development Support Facilitator.
Earlier in high school, Eden completed a Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation and volunteered at the Numinbah Environmental Education Centre. He went on to earn a Certificate IV in Outdoor Education and Leadership and has worked across our primary and middle schools as a teacher assistant, helping to run sporting events, carnivals, and traditional Indigenous games.
Eden’s dedication to the community has been recognised with an ANZAC Award and the Nerang RSL Bursary for his community spirit. He served as a student leader during our Year 12 Uluru camp and has volunteered for countless school events, fundraisers, tree plantings, beach clean-ups, the Dreamworld Fun Run, and a Livin fundraiser. At a men’s mental health day in Brisbane, Eden and his team raised over $2,000 in raffle sales at a Suncorp Broncos game, contributing to a total of $33,000. Eden has also assisted with maintaining our native garden, a project he helped establish with alumnus Sofia, and our front entrance green wall.
In addition to his outdoor pursuits, Eden completed the Southern Cross University Scholars Program, Learning and Language in Your Discipline, earning direct entry into a Bachelor of Education along with a $10,000 scholarship. He is passionate about making education and curriculum delivery more engaging and fun. In Year 11, he analysed his field experiences to identify the key ingredients of successful and engaging programs. He created lesson plans to demonstrate science concepts and wrote an information report about the surf breaks on the Gold Coast.
For his Year 12 Senior project, Eden designed a Year 5 unit plan incorporating the best practices of outdoor education. While he wasn’t able to deliver the unit as planned, he successfully adapted parts of it, teaching HPE lessons that tied into the Paris Olympics and creating a Percy Jackson-themed Book Day activity for younger students.
The education system is crying out for motivated, fun, and dedicated teachers like Eden. We know he will excel in his Bachelor of Education (Secondary Earth and Environmental Science). While studying, he plans to work as a teacher aide and continue supporting PCYC on school camps. In the future, Eden hopes to teach in remote locations across Australia.
A huge thank you to Nikki, Steff, Tai, Kat, Kalindi, Andre at PCYC Bornhoffen, and all the primary and middle school advisors who have mentored this star.
Congratulations, Eden!
Sara’s Journey: From Real Estate Visionary to Equestrian Champion
Every year has been a big one for this incredibly diligent student, but Sara has truly excelled in her final year!
Having dabbled in criminology and forensic science in the past, Sara discovered her true passion for real estate during a family holiday overseas. With a natural affinity for maths and a business mindset, she began her entrepreneurial journey early, starting small businesses in middle school. To build on her interests, Sara completed a Certificate III in Business at Parkwood International Golf Course and, in Year 11, focused on business ethics and analysing the real estate market.
In Year 12, Sara broadened her exploration of international real estate’s impact on the Australian economy and property market, culminating in a thesis on successful real estate investment strategies. Her project included an investigation report and a theoretical investment plan, identifying prime investment properties and locations, comparing loan costs, and analysing factors such as LVR, stamp duty, income, and liabilities over a five-year investment period. Using market data, she predicted property value increases and evaluated options for selling or purchasing additional properties, including exploring the benefits of negative gearing. Sara hopes to put her plan into action—and we have no doubt she will!
In addition to her academic and professional pursuits, Sara has excelled in equestrian sports, competing at a state level in various disciplines for several years. Practicing nearly every weekend, Sara consistently places in the top 10, demonstrating her dedication and discipline. At the State Championships in Caboolture this March, her team placed first in eight events. Her commitment includes hours of practice, caring for her horses, and maintaining her gear.
For her outlearning, Sara completed an internship with SB Partners Accounting and Tax, complementing her business studies. As part of her social action project, she partnered with a peer to raise awareness about period poverty, collecting donations for the charity Share the Dignity. She also volunteered at the Gold Coast Historical Museum and served as a senior mentor at the Beaudesert Pony Club, supporting younger members with her expertise and time.
Next year, Sara plans to take a gap year to work and travel, including exploring Australia and visiting Cape York. She has already secured an early offer to study Real Estate and Business at Griffith University, where she plans to pursue her dream of owning her own business.
Congratulations, Sara, on all your phenomenal achievements, and thank you Steff and Tai for your support!
