Welcome back to Term 3 of 2023! We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break. As we begin this new term, we are thrilled to share an exciting lineup of events and activities at Silkwood School.

Firstly, our highly anticipated school photos are scheduled for the first week. It's a great opportunity to capture memorable moments and create lasting mementos of the school year.

Following this, we have the Primary School Cardboard Challenge, where our students will have the chance to showcase their boundless creativity and innovative thinking. It's truly a moment where imaginations soar, and new ideas take centre stage.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the welcome return of our SCCA School Community Bush Dance. It promises to be a lively and spirited evening filled with captivating music and community connection. Get ready to dance your heart out and create unforgettable memories with friends and loved ones.

In the midst of Term 3, we will also be celebrating Book Week—a time dedicated to embracing the joy of reading. Engaging activities and events will ignite a love for literature among our students and inspire them to explore new worlds through the pages of a book.

We also have special events planned to honour and appreciate the remarkable fathers in our community. Father's Day provides an opportunity for us to express gratitude for their unwavering support and love.

As the season changes and spring approaches, we eagerly embrace the changing seasons and celebrate the arrival of spring with our Spring Dreaming Festival. At this significant event, we come together to pay homage and show deep respect to the extraordinary heritage of our First Nations people. With a profound focus on acknowledging their enduring connections to family, land, language, and culture, we devote this entire day to a magnificent exploration of the history, customs, art, music, and sports of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. We embark on a journey of discovery, unity, and profound appreciation for the rich tapestry of traditions that have shaped our land for countless generations.  

We look forward to a remarkable and fulfilling Term 3 ahead. Together, let us embrace the opportunities, showcase our talents, and continue to foster a thriving and supportive learning environment.

We see so much excitement and enthusiasm in our community as students prepare to exhibit their work by the end of Term 2!

Exhibitions are an essential part of the learning cycle for students, and they continue to learn while delivering their exhibitions. They will reflect on their exhibitions afterwards and think about areas to develop in their next learning plan.

In an exhibition, the student decides the agenda and how they will present their work. The role of parents and caregivers is to help their child to reflect on their work and evaluate how they have grown, and set their learning plan goals for the following semester.

Our Term 1 Cyber Safety Training is part of our whole community approach to support our young people in having a safe experience online. This Term, we will welcome again cyber safety expert Brett Lee to help educate our students, Team and families about the importance of online safety.

Each year we learn something new from Brett, and the messages he brings to these sessions are invaluable in supporting an aligned approach to internet safety at school and home.

Across Years 3 to 12, we offer parents and carers this course to support you when navigating the digital world in which we live. The research is clear. Parent education on cyber safety matters! It effectively reduces young people’s risks online and provides valuable guidance as to how you can keep your family safe from bullying and unwelcome behaviour in the digital realm.

Keeping young people safe online requires a commitment by everyone to work together!

All music students are to attend, as all choirs, orchestras (including Year 3 Beginner Strings) and Guitar students will be performing. Our groups have been learning their exciting repertoire and are ready to perform – with some of the groups soon to attend Eisteddfod – they are very excited to perform for you all and showcase our new items

Parking: Primary and Middle School – Please remember, as per council requirements, that there is no parking on Shepherd Hill Lane. Carpooling is recommended due to limited parking. Additional parking is available at the Middle School. Please remember a torch as it will be dark when the concert has finished.

Please ensure your young person brings their instrument/s, music, and music uniform (if they have one issued already) or school uniform with black long pants and black shoes and socks. 

All music students are to come to the hall at 3:15 pm for warm-up – no siblings or non-performers will be allowed in the hall at this time, please. Parents are requested to please supervise any siblings until 4:00 pm. Students should bring some afternoon tea if required and a warm jacket for after their performance. We are looking forward to presenting our items to you on our Music afternoon.
