How to Enrol at Silkwood School
Stepping onto the Silkwood path is a considered decision, to select a school designed with a different purpose than traditional schools.
To help support new families in making a confident decision, we have created a simple and informative enrolment process, with an easy to follow six-step Enrolment Guide.
Step 1
Complete an Enrolment Enquiry Form
Our Parent Information Course is a crucial step in onboarding new families to Silkwood and is a compulsory requirement for all new enrolments. The course is designed to provide parents and carers with a deeper understanding of The Silkwood Way and to ensure all new and prospective families understand The Silkwood Difference. Our School Principal and Learning Community Leadership Team deliver the course in theatre style at our Senior School Campus. This is a child-free event.
School Tours
We highly recommend families attend a school tour to experience our learning environment and see The Silkwood Way up close.
Silkwood invites families to attend a School Tour hosted by our Heads of School at scheduled times throughout the year.
On a School Tour, you will:
- See our Learning Program in action
- Have the opportunity to ask questions
Families wishing to receive an invitation must complete an Enrolment Enquiry Form. Our Enrolments Coordinator will then be in touch with further details.
Once you have attended our Parent Information Course, we hope you will have received enough information to make a considered decision as to whether Silkwood is right for your family.
Enrolment applications may be submitted up to two years prior to the year of commencement.
*A future Prep Enrolment Application may be submitted for a child from birth.
To begin the enrolment process, you will be provided with an Enrolment Application form by our Enrolments Coordinator. Please complete and submit this along with payment of a $100 application processing fee.
Supporting documentation required:
- Child’s Birth Certificate
- Good quality digital photo (iPhone or Android ok)
- Two recent school reports (for all school-age children)
- Medical reports & assessments (where applicable)
- Family court orders (where applicable)
- Visa classification and number (where applicable)
Once we have received your completed application form, it will be reviewed by the School's Enrolment Team. If there are available places in your required year level, an enrolment interview will be offered.
If we are at capacity in your child’s required year level, the following stages will apply:
Stage 1: Future Waitlist
Applicants will be placed on our Future Waitlist for their nominated year. As we progress applicants from the Top Intake Waitlist to placement, Future Waitlist applicants will be offered an enrolment interview to progress to the Top Intake Waitlist.
Stage 2: Enrolment Interview
Interviews are a vital step in our enrolment process. The Silkwood Way interview process allows us to get to know you and your child beyond what can be found on an application form and in school reports. This is where your personalised journey begins.
Stage 3: Top Intake Waitlist (Priority)
Applicants from our Top Intake Waitlist will progress to enrolment as places become available.
Enrolment Selection Considerations
The following considerations are made when reviewing applications:
- Alignment with the School's values and guiding principles
- Sibling priority
- Enrolment date of application
Consideration is also given to each applicant’s learning needs and circumstances, and information is gathered in consultation with parents and other relevant persons/professionals prior to a review by the School's Enrolment Team.
Applicants on our Top Intake Waitlist will progress to an Offer of Enrolment when a suitable place becomes available in their nominated year level. You will be required to submit an Enrolment Contract together with a non-refundable Family Bond Fee to secure your child's place.
Family Bond Fee = $800 per family
Once the school receives your Enrolment Contract and Family Bond Feel, our Enrolment Coordinator will confirm your child's commencement date and provide you with the necessary information required to get you started.
Yes, all applicants are required to make an application by submitting the Application Form and paying the application Fee.
The School reviews the Top Intake and Future Waitlists and offers of placement are made in the year prior to enrolment.
If no places become available in the preferred year of entry, the waiting list will automatically roll over to the following year.
Please email our Enrolments Coordinator info@silkwood.qld.edu.au. These changes can easily be accommodated and will be confirmed in writing once the change has been made. When making these changes, the original date of application will be maintained.
Spending a day at Silkwood offers prospective students an opportunity to discover what it means to be a part of the Silkwood School community. They will attend classes, meet teachers, and experience our school program. It also gives us a chance to get to know them more and determine which Advisory will suit them best.
Spend-a-days may be offered during the interview process for children in Year 2 and beyond.
